\nMa mi stai ascoltando?<\/em>
\nHai capito cosa ti ho detto?<\/em><\/p>\n
Quante volte abbiamo sentito o pronunciato queste parole nella nostra vita.
\nMigliaia, sicuramente.
\nE\u00a0non finir\u00e0 certo qui dato che, forse, uno dei maggiori problemi che oggi si frappongono tra noi e gli altri \u00e8 che le persone non sanno ascoltare.<\/p>\n
Farsi ascoltare, quello si, ma ascoltare l\u2019altro, no.<\/p>\n
E l’entit\u00e0 del problema \u00e8 direttamente proporzionale alla opinione che abbiamo di noi stessi. Tanto pi\u00f9 ci sentiamo intelligenti, sensibili, certi di possedere saldamente la nostra porzione di verit\u00e0 – tanto pi\u00f9 l’altro \u00e8 solo una\u00a0comparsa, un\u00a0figurante\u00a0nel teatro della nostra mente.<\/p>\n
Ma cosa vuol dire ascoltare?<\/p>\n
Non tanto e non solo far parlare l\u2019altro, non interromperlo, non \u2018parlargli sopra\u2019, capire quello che dice, per poi rispondere.<\/p>\n
Ascoltare\u00a0veramente\u00a0significa prima di tutto tacere interiormente, tacere con la voce, il pensiero, il sentimento.<\/strong> Significa non far sorgere nella nostra coscienza automaticamente la\u00a0nostra\u00a0interpretazione, la\u00a0nostra\u00a0spiegazione, il\u00a0nostro\u00a0personale giudizio su quanto l\u2019altro sta dicendo.<\/p>\n
Significa non solo non \u2018parlargli sopra\u2019, ma anche non\u2026\u2019pensargli sopra\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n
E – attenzione – significa ancor meno percepire il\u00a0nostro\u00a0senso di simpatia o antipatia per le parole dell\u2019altro.
\nIl giudizio o la nostra visione delle cose, o la nostra approvazione o condanna devono tacere fintantoch\u00e9 l\u2019altro ci parla.
\nDobbiamo esercitare un controllo strettissimo sulla nostra vita del pensare, del sentire e del volere, simile, per determinazione interiore, a quello che facciamo durante l\u2019atto meditativo.<\/p>\n
Il motivo per cui coloro che hanno avuto modo di parlare con un iniziato o un maestro spirituale ne hanno sempre tratto l\u2019impressione di essere al centro dell\u2019attenzione dell\u2019altro – anzi, la netta sensazione come se nessun altro al mondo esistesse, durante il colloquio, oltre a loro due – \u00e8 proprio questo: il maestro, l\u2019iniziato\u00a0sa ascoltare.<\/p>\n
L\u2019altro \u00e8 davanti a me.
\nLe sue parole, i suoi sguardi, i suoi gesti, la maggiore o minore consequenzialit\u00e0 dei suoi pensieri, mi svelano il suo mondo interiore.
\nIo divento lui; vedo i suoi problemi con i suoi occhi, le sue debolezze con la sua anima, i suoi pensieri con la sua mente.
\nSolo dopo aver ascoltato, essermi identificato con l\u2019altro –\u00a0se richiesto\u00a0– esprimo la mia opinione e lo faccio in modo tale da\u00a0poter essere accolto\u00a0dall\u2019altro.
\nEcco questo potremmo chiamarlo \u2018saper ascoltare\u2019.<\/p>\n

\n– But are you listening?<\/em>
\n– Did you understand what I said?<\/em><\/p>\n
How many times have we heard – or said – words like these in our life?
\nA thousand time, for sure.<\/p>\n
And this will certainly not be the end of the story as, perhaps, one of the biggest problems that actually comes between us and others is that people are not able to listen.
\nFor sure to be heard, but not to listen to others. And the scale of the problem is directly proportional to the opinion we have of ourselves. The more we feel smart, sensitive, confident to hold firmly our portion of the truth – the more the Other is just a walk-on in our soul\u2019s theater.
\nWhat does it mean\u00a0to really listen<\/strong>?<\/p>\n
Not so much and not only talking to each other, not interrupting, not ‘speaking over\u2019\u00a0the Other, understanding what he is saying, and then answering.<\/p>\n
Really listening\u00a0means, first of all, being quiet inside, silencing voice, thoughts, feelings. <\/strong>It means not letting our consciousness automatically emerge with\u00a0our\u00a0understanding,\u00a0our\u00a0explanation,\u00a0our\u00a0personal judgment on what the Other is saying.<\/p>\n
It means not just ‘speaking over\u2019, but also not\u00a0‘thinking over\u2019\u00a0the Other.<\/strong><\/p>\n
And it also means not to perceive our sense of sympathy or antipathy for the Other\u2019s words.
\nOur evaluation, our point of view, our approval or condemnation should remain silent as long as the Other speaks.
\nWe need to exercise a tight control over our thinking, feeling and willing life, close – as to inner determination – to meditation.
\nThe reason why those who have had the opportunity to talk to an initiate or a spiritual master have always got the sense of being at the center of Other\u2019s attention – the feeling as if no one else in the world existed during the meeting, just the two of them – is precisely that: the master, the initiate, is\u00a0able to listen.<\/p>\n
The Other is in front of me.
\nHis words, his gaze, his gestures, the greater or less self-consistency of his thoughts, reveal me his inner world.
\nI\u00a0am\u00a0him; I see his problems through his eyes, his frailties through his soul, his thoughts through his mind.
\nOnly after having listened to the Other, having empathized with him – if required – I express my view, doing it in such a way to be accepted by him.
\nHere you are; this I call \u2018listening\u2019.<\/p>\n
